What Does SLMB Cover?

SLMB pays your Medicare Part B premium — currently $185.00/month in 2026. This is deducted directly from your Social Security check each month, so with SLMB your check will be higher by $185.00/month.

SLMB also qualifies you for Extra Help. Enrolling in any Medicare Savings Program — including SLMB — automatically qualifies you for Extra Help (Low Income Subsidy) with Medicare Part D prescription drug costs. This can save you hundreds or thousands more per year on medications.

SLMB does NOT cover Part A premiums, deductibles, or copayments. If your income is below $1,350/month, you may qualify for QMB which covers more.

How to Apply for SLMB

Apply through your state Medicaid agency. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) to be connected to your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) for free help applying.

Retroactive coverage may be available. Some applicants may receive retroactive Part B premium assistance depending on state rules and application timing. Ask your state Medicaid agency whether prior months can be covered.
