Income limits include a $20/month disregard. The figures above already include the standard $20/month general income disregard applied to Social Security and most other income. Your state may also disregard additional income types. Apply even if your income appears slightly over — your state may have more generous rules.

What Does QMB Cover?

QMB is the most comprehensive of the four Medicare Savings Programs. Here is exactly what it pays for:

  • Medicare Part A premium — most people get Part A free, but QMB covers the premium for those who don't (up to $518/month in 2026)
  • Medicare Part B premium — $185.00/month in 2026, saving you $2,220.00/year
  • Part A deductible — $1,676 per benefit period in 2026
  • Part B deductible — $257/year in 2026
  • Part A and Part B coinsurance and copayments — all covered
Providers cannot bill QMB members for Medicare cost-sharing. If you are enrolled in QMB, it is illegal for Medicare providers to bill you for deductibles, coinsurance, or copayments — even if they are not enrolled in Medicaid. If a provider bills you, report it to your State Medical Assistance office or 1-800-MEDICARE.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the QMB income limit for 2026?

The QMB income limit is $1,350/month for a single person and $1,824/month for a married couple in 2026. These amounts include the standard $20/month income disregard.

Does QMB cover prescription drugs?

QMB does not directly cover prescription drugs — that's handled by Extra Help (Low Income Subsidy) for Medicare Part D. However, QMB enrollment generally qualifies you automatically for Extra Help, which reduces Part D premiums and copayments significantly.

Can I have QMB and Medicare Advantage?

Yes. QMB works with both Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, your plan must cover your Medicare cost-sharing up to the QMB limit. Contact your plan to make sure they are aware of your QMB status.

How long does QMB last?

States periodically review continued QMB eligibility. Your state Medicaid agency will send you a renewal notice. Keep your contact information updated to avoid a gap in coverage.
